Villa Ferretti Hosts the International Workshop on Sustainable Natural Products Research
On September 23–24, 2025, the international workshop “Interdisciplinary Advances in Natural Products Research: From Ecosystems to Molecular Targets” will take place in the beautiful setting of Villa Ferretti in Bacoli, Italy.
The initiative, promoted by Prof. Roberta Teta from the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Naples Federico II, is organized in collaboration with SULIEIA, coordinated by Prof. Valeria Costantino, and held under the patronage of the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), coordinated by Prof. Simonetta Fraschetti.
The event aims to present and share the scientific outcomes of the PRIN 2022 project “BiTMaP – Coupling the power of bioinformatics and experimental tools for accelerating the production, structural elucidation, and target identification of marine natural products.” In addition to the team from Federico II, led by Prof. Teta, the project also involves the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Salerno, represented by Prof. Gianluigi Lauro.
Opening remarks will be delivered by the Mayor of Bacoli, Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, and the Director of the Department of Pharmacy at Federico II, Prof. Angelo Antonio Izzo.
The scientific program will feature contributions from internationally recognized experts, organized into four thematic sessions reflecting the project’s key pillars: the isolation and structural characterization of natural products; bioinformatic prediction of molecular structures; biological analysis of their therapeutic potential; and assessment of environmental impact and sustainability.
The workshop aims to promote an interdisciplinary and sustainable approach to natural products research, encouraging dialogue among chemists, biologists, bioinformaticians, and ecologists, with the goal of enhancing biodiversity and contributing to a more responsible and informed scientific future.
