The initiative “the Erasmus student as your buddy”, promoted by the School of Engineering, is specifically thought to help foreign students that arrive in Naples through an Erasmus project to integrate in their new setting and make their stay more enjoyable.
In fact, the Italian students of the School of Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Edoardo Cosenza, may figure as “tutors” of their foreign colleagues, fetching them at the airport as a start.
The Italian “big brother” (or “big sister”), through his/her academic experience and fluency in Italian, will help foreign students to get acquainted to the new setting and make them feel more at home.
The project is based on the assumption that the tutor and the student communicate with each other before the student actually arrives in Naples.
In fact, the tutor will: write an e-mail to the student before arrival to start a contact; fetch him/her at the airport taking care to take the student to the School’s Erasmus Point in Naples; accompany the student to the International Relations check-in Office; guide the student in all the necessary formal paper work to be filled in and in getting acquainted to the School, staff and teaching facilities; supply him/her with all the necessary information on how to get around in the university campus, on the academic calendar and timetable of the degree courses. Moreover, the Italian student will also help the foreign colleague to get around the city centre and, why not, introduce the student to his/her circle of friends also to pick up a bit of Italian!
The initiative is particularly suited for all those Italian students that have carried out an Erasmus project abroad themselves and that have personally experienced the difficulties of being a student abroad. However, all the students enrolled in the School of Engineering are welcome to candidate themselves as potential tutors of a foreign student. Who knows they could be the next to leave the following year for an Erasmus project in a European country!
Students interested should send an e-mail to valeria.peluso@unina.it with the following info: name, student number, degree course and year of enrolment, telephone number, e-mail address, knowledge of languages, and possible Erasmus project carried out (including university and period).
