ERASMUS Teaching Staff Mobility

The SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme gives university teachers the possibility to spend teaching periods abroad. These periods can last from 1 week up to 6 months.

The participating teachers must be nationals of one of the countries participating in SOCRATES. Refugees, stateless persons or permanent residents can also participate in Erasmus Teaching Staff mobility.

Who can participate in Erasmus Teaching Staff Mobility?

Only institutions which hold an Erasmus University Charter may send or receive an Erasmus teacher. The selection of teachers to participate in Erasmus is undertaken by the institutions at which they are employed. Exceptionally, in some countries, the National Agency may undertake the selection of teachers for Erasmus mobility.

The participating teachers must be nationals of one of the countries participating in SOCRATES. Refugees, stateless persons or permanent residents can also participate in Erasmus Teaching Staff mobility.

Priorities for awarding a mobility grant to university teachers

In addition to the national priorities which the Erasmus National Agencies communicate to the Universities, the following cases are considered as priorities:

  • The visiting teacher’s contribution will form an integral part of the receiving university’s degree programme
  • The mobility activities will contribute to the production of new teaching material
  • The participation of the teacher will help to strengthen relations between the sending and the receiving universities’ departments and faculties, and in a more global context, will help prepare future cooperation

Priority should be given also to candidates who participate for the first time in Erasmus Teaching Staff Mobility.

Grants

The maximum grant amount that may be awarded from the European Union’s Erasmus funds is 800 € / week. For the whole teaching period abroad, the total grant cannot be higher than 2000 €.

Payment of grants and administration of Erasmus Teacher Mobility is undertaken by the entity which selects the teachers for mobility.

University Mobility for Administrators and Technicians
 Within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme’s Mobility action, which is to promote the mobility of different categories of trainers, there are two measures of particular interest: placements and exchange:
  • Placements should be dedicated to young workers and recent graduates;
  • Exchange should be dedicated to human resource managers; vocational training programme planners and managers; trainers and occupational guidance specialists; as well as trainers and mentors in the area of language competencies.
